Welcome to The DM Database
Degenerative myelopathy is a genetic, progressive neurological disease. It is a
devastating and traumatic experience for those who have struggled with it and through it.
This website was created to support research in degenerative myelopathy. It is dedicated to the memory
of all the pups who fought the brave fight and have passed on.
Please share your experience with us so we can try to provide hope for the future.
A genetic marker for DM has been found by Dr. Clemmons of the University of Florida.
Yet not all dogs with this mutation develop DM. It is our hope
this database can aid in further understanding the occurrence of this disease. (For more information
on this disease, please visit our recommended links.) This survey is for all dogs with DM and all GSD.
UPDATE: New LOWER prices on Dr. Clemmons' DNA tests!!!
Who Should Take This Survey?
Anyone with a GSD.
Anyone with a dog that has been diagnosed with DM.
Anyone who has lost a dog to DM
Anyone who has a dog that has tested positive on the Flash (or RAPD) Test even if he/she is not showing signs of DM
About the Survey
This survey will ask questions about your dog's general health, speific health issues, diet, environment. etc. Some
questions are detailed and may require a quick review of vet records. The length of time to complete it will vary. If you
elect to register, your entry will be editable and you
will be able to save your information and complete the survey at a later time.
Please Read: If you have registered, you may submit your entry at any time. You will be able to log back in and
continue working on the survey. A survey is entered into the database as a record once it is complete, however the records will
continue to be editable by the contributor. It is our hope that these records can be
updated as appropriate over time.
